Saudi Yanbu Petrochemical Company (YANPET)

YANPET is one of the largest and most technologically-advanced petrochemical complexes in Saudi Arabia.  YANPET is equally owned by SABIC and Mobil Yanbu Petrochemical Company (a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation). The business was established in 1980 and commenced operations in 1985 in Yanbu, on Saudi Arabia’s western Red Sea coast. Saudi Aramco provides the feedstock for YANPET’s two world class 800,000 metric-ton-per-year crackers, producing mainly ethylene which is used as feed for the on-site derivative units. YANPET is a fully integrated plant, making it one of the largest and lowest-cost producers in the world. It is recognized as a petrochemical industry global pacesetter in terms of production and safety.

YANPET is recognized as a reliable provider of polyethylene, ethylene glycol, polypropylene, and pyrolysis gasoline to domestic, regional and global markets.

A keen focus by management and employees on process and operational safety has resulted in one of the finest, most remarkable long-term safety records of any similar-sized petrochemical plant in the world. In 2012 YANPET reached a milestone of 10 years operation with only one lost time injury for its employees.

YANPET employs a workforce of 1,450 people, of which 85% are Saudis. To retain the highly-qualified Saudi workforce at YANPET and help them to maximize their human and career potential, there is a comprehensive talent management program in place, to focus on employee professional and leadership development at this world-class industrial plant.
